Singapore - July 2005
In July 2005, Steve had to go and work in the office in Singapore for two weeks - so the rest of us went for an extra holiday!
For Rachel and Dominic, this was the first time they had been on an aeroplane - a 14 hours flight each way.
After getting over the flight, Steve went to the office on the Monday, while the rest of us went to the zoo with one of Steve's Singapore partners, Angela.
At the weekend, we were all able to go out together.
We spent one day at the Singapore Bird Park - a huge park full of birds from around the world. We were suprised to see penguins in Singapore - it was odd seeing birds associated with the cold in a country that was so hot.
One of the best areas was the "Lori Loft", a huge walk in aviary full of Loris (a typoe of parrot).
On the Sunday, we went to the island of Sentosa, a small island to the south of the main island that we reached by cable car. Sentosa claims to have the further point south on the mainland of Asia, and we went swimming.
..and of course we found time to have a look around Singapore - including a visit to Raffles for a Singapore Sling!..and of course we found time to have a look around Singapore - including a visit to Raffles for a Singapore Sling!
Rachel says:
"I enjoyed Singapore because it was hot and I enjoyed swimming in the hotel pool. I liked visiting all the different places.
"I liked to zoo. I enjoyed it because I liked seeing the elephant show. I thought it was funny when Dominic fell asleep and started snoring in the taxi on the way home!"
Dominic says:
"I liked going to the zoo because there were crocodiles and white polar bears. There was an elephant show where men rode on the elephants' backs, and they showed us how to ride them. Rachel got soaking wet in the water park at the zoo.
I liked the Amara hotel because there were nice buns for breakfast, and we could go swimming. All the people in the hotel said "hello" to me every morning."
