Norfolk - April 2005

Easter fell quite early in 2005. Whilst most schools had their traditional two week holiday over the Easter break, in Essex the Easter holiday was delayed until after Easter. This gave us an opportunity for a week away after Easter, when most other children were back at school.

We decided not to go too far, and so went to Norfolk, stopping at Framlingham Castle on the way up.

Rather than staying in a cottage, we stayed in a converted windmill, right on the bank of the Norfolk Broads at Reedham.

In kitchen and bathroom occupied the ground floor of the windmill, with ladders up to the sitting room on the first floor, to the children's bedroom on the second floor, and to the 'master' bedroom at the top of the windmill.

It was quite cold - especially at night - as there was only limited heating, but the views over the Broads were very good - especially at sunset when the colours of the sky were amazing, and when we were able to watch an owl hunting over the fields and a heron making its last flight of the day.

On the Sunday after we arrived, Teresa, Rachel and Dominic went to church in Norwich's Catholic Catherdral.

Afterwards, we all went to Castle Acre Priory, where the daffodils were out.
